Side-step is a resident of the alternate future known as the 31st Century, or Earth-691, and is an inhabitant of the planet of Haven; a world ran by mutants. She was member of a group of renegade mutants known as the Nine. The eight other members were Batwing, Bear, Blaster, Blockade, Mindscan, Rancor (leader of the group), Rhodney, and Shaddo.Together this group of powerful mutants became a constant thorn in the side of the future heroes known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.
